Bearing Size Finder — Standard Metric Series

Bore · Envelope · Shortlist

Find candidate single-row deep groove ball bearings from the three standard metric series by shaft bore and envelope limits — the boundary dimensions are ISO 15 standard and identical across manufacturers.

Boundary dimensions (bore, outside diameter, width) are a genuine geometric standard. Dynamic and static load ratings are not — they depend on each manufacturer's internal design, so the figures in section 03 are typical published values for a standard design, not a specific manufacturer's live catalog. Confirm the exact rating for your chosen brand and bearing before specifying it, then verify it in the Load, Life & Static Capacity Calculator.

All three series share the same bore — the series choice is a trade-off between envelope size and load/speed capacity (see notes below).

Explanatory Notes

What the series numbers mean

At the same bore, the 60 series (extra light) has the smallest outside diameter and narrowest width, 62 (light) is the common general-purpose default, and 63 (medium) is noticeably larger in both OD and width. A larger envelope at the same bore means more balls and a heavier cross-section, which is why load and speed capacity climb from 60 through 62 to 63 — the trade-off is size, weight and cost.

Bigger isn't automatically better

Jumping to the 63 series "for safety margin" costs more, weighs more, and often runs at a lower maximum speed than the same bore in the 62 series, because the larger balls and races generate more centrifugal and friction heating. Pick the smallest series that clears both your load/life calculation and your envelope constraint — not the largest one that fits.

Dimensions are standard; ratings are not

Because bore, OD and width are geometric standards, a 6206 from any manufacturer will physically fit the same shaft and housing. Its dynamic and static load ratings, however, depend on that manufacturer's internal ball complement and raceway design, and can differ by a meaningful margin between brands even for the "same" bearing number — always pull the exact rating from the catalog page of the brand you're actually buying.
